Good postural care can improve a person’s quality of life, but as we know through emerging research poor postural care leads to daily pain, poor quality of life and in some cases premature death. Postural care is without a doubt a silent killer and like all silent killers goes largely unrecognised and ignored.
Over the past year and a half Changing Our Lives, a rights based organisation, has been working with likeminded and passionate advocates of postural care from around England to produce a national postural care strategy. This strategy brings together national best practice and a call to action for national bodies to ensure some basic changes, such as a nationally agreed training standard, national postural care pathway and a national measurement standard, are implemented. You can find more about the strategy here https://www.changingourlives.org/our-work-postural-care
The strategy is being launched at a parliamentary event in mid-November, with the final date still to be confirmed. The strategy is being supported by a range of national bodies including NHS England, NHS Improvement, Association of Directors of Adult Services, Health Education England, Professional Learning Disability Senate, British Healthcare Trades Association, National Association of Equipment Providers to name a few…
